Okay. So i swapped some gear around and managed to drop my 12 string for a new 5 string, fretless, acoustic electric bass. Its pretty fun to play right now. But needless to say, my intonation is horrid, and the fretboard has no markings whatsoever. My question: If i were to paint the fretboard (lines where the frets would be), what kind of paint would i use? Whatever i use is probably just going to be shredded by the strings im thinking... any suggestions? I was thinking about using tape like on a violin back in 4th grade but i wanted something a little more permanent.

How about side-position markers? You probably have dots, but you could use a little nail polish and just touch a dot's worth on the fretboard edge.
Another thought is to put thin strips of tape across the back of the neck, so at least your thumb can feel its way; like 'frets' on the back of the neck.
