When I dropped the bass a bit more in the neck strap it was much better.
Now I can rest the thumb on the neck pickup and still have the arm/elbow close to the body.

Congratulations on your purchase, and here's wishing you many years of enjoyment.
My first bass (pictured on left) was a Yamaha RBX-260, the "little brother" of the 270 with a single P-pickup.
I later bought a Rickenbacker 4003 (headstock shown below) and just last year picked up a used Michael Kelly Dragonfly acoustic-electric (not pictured).
Some day, I'll get to play again. *sigh*
