I'm going to try a Precision and Jazz Fender bass, to learn on.What should I look out for as I have no experience?(I've read a lot about the pickups but guess I wont know till I hear them.) I'm inclined towards the slim neck Jazz, with more tone variation?..thank you.

Lotsa guys like the J-bass for those same reasons. I have a Squier P-Bass Special (which has a neck modeled after the J) and I have to say I really like the feel of the neck.

I have a Fender 1960's Classic Jazz and i love the feel of the neck opposed to the Squire P-Bass i had. And the Pickups give you a diffrent tone too. So pretty much you gotta get out there and try them see what looks good what feels good and what sounds good to you
