While learning to play a song i often want to stop the strings from ringing when changing to the next note, i was curious if im supposed to, or just let it ring.

It's been a question thats bugging me so if anyone can help me out, i'll appreciate it.

New goal #1: Buy an amp.
New goal #2: Buy a 5-string.
New goal #3: Get better then OWA at music.

It depends on the song. Both techniques are correct, it's just that on some songs the bass should be going 'dup-dup-dup-dup' (short, punchy notes), where in other songs it sounds better if the notes ring all the way from when you hit the string, till the time you hit the string again. Like, 'DangDangDangDang.'

One is a smoother sound, the other is punchier, with spaces in between. They're both valid and useful, so practice both.

Hope this helps.

I would have to say the same as DemoEtc

Music is one of the most powerful forces on this planet, why not put it to use?
