i have been trying months and months to get a decent explantation for this.

i have a smaller Quantum BK25 bass amplifier. basic controls, including, gain, limiter threshold knobs, a bright switch, level knob, and the usual treble, mid, and bass knobs. what is the limiter/threshold knob for, and how do i use it?

Derek.

It eliminates the peaks in your playing. It controls the difference in volume. It depends on the style of playing, for example, they are almost mandatory for slap&pop but for fingerstyle or even if you play with a pick you can live without them. Here is a video for a demo sound:

And read another recent thread on compressors. They are almost the same thing... well, not really but you can also control the peaks with them.

The compressors modify the high values and also the low ones, they "compress" the whole signal, so, for example, you can increase the volume: the lowest part will sound louder and the highest part will not distort.

The limiter just "limites" the highest levels, it eliminates those parts when they are greater than a threshold.

Hope it helps.
