Hi All
i have just picked up the hobby again after the missis giving birth and sleepless nights and all that......trying to pick up where i left of with the playing(im quite surprised how much a can remember!!) the reason for this post is that this time the missis wants to learn as well whicjh is great and gives me cgance to invest in another guitar, i have sort of fallen for this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/School-Of-Rock-Electric-Guitar-Pack-Incl-Gibson-Plecs_W0QQitemZ7418719840QQcategoryZ106458QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

a long link i know but if you guys could tell me if i should go for this or not, as i still dont know what its all about really('') and sleepless nights has done nothing whatsoever for my analytical skills, all advice is appriciated.
if any of you have suggestions for starter guitars that i can get an amp with for a similar price in the uk that would be great, the only thing i do know is i am looking for an axe with humbuckers. so come on guys let me share your knowledge!!
(':D')

Cheers

It look prety good to me, you'd not find a package like that anywhere else much cheaper.

The only thing I would warm is, I bought a pack like this when I first started out, and within 3 days I had returned it for a refund, because although, to quote from the eBay site;

"Your average musician will be left looking at your Guitar with green eyes"

Once they actually hear the guitar they will be running. Away.

Of course this might have just been the one I bought, but if you could I would strongly advise going to a shop and trying some out instead. If you are looking for a cheaper guitar, check out your local buy and sell shops (I think there's one near me called Cash Converters, you know the places where they buy your old stuff as well as sell stuff on). There's always a few guitars in there, as well as amps etc.

You can get an Epiphone SG for £225 from Peter Cooks and a Roland Cube for another £60, it'll be a lot better than the starter pack IMO.

Sean I know exactly what you mean, just picked up my guitar again last month for the same reason. At first even simple chord changes sounded horrible, but now I'm better then I was before I quit, it didn't take long to pick back up. It felt good to be playing again.

I don't think you can go wrong with the starter packs. It might not be top class kit but it certainly gets you out there.

My son has the 6-string and Bass starter packs - I nearly kept the bass for myself once I heard how good it sounded at higher volume in my kitchen, and the 6-string is good enough to take out in public.

The amps ae usually the weakest link in the 6-string packs.

Enter stage right "Soho Soundhouse" in London. Their delivery schedules are not brilliant and the people we spoke to on their mail order line would have been dangerous if they'd had another brain cell between them, but they packaged a Yamaha electric and a 10W Marshall for my girlfriend's son at no more cash than a basic starter pack from Woolworth's and I borrowed it the other week to go do my regular Saturday teaching list. In fact, I liked the amp so much my girlfriend bought me one for my birthday.

Best,

A :-)

cheers for that alan its good to hear from someone with experience with these things, i think i will go for it to be honest as im not going to be playing in public for the forseeable future and i just want something that i can learn the basics on without having to get an ear-bashing off the missis for spending a mint on it....
