It is important to establish what your goals are. To advance as a guitar player you must be dedicated, in order to achieve spending many countless hours practicing and learning the skills required to master the guitar and fulfilling your destiny.

First arrange your time schedule positively allowing an effective balance between practicing and quality time studying to understand the areas of theory, the application of modes, Circle Of Fifths, Triads, Inversions and voicing, Relative Major and Minor, Ear Training, and learn to read standard notation. All of this will do more than expand your knowledge it will advance your ability as a guitarist allowing you to improvise at a higher level thus putting you closer to your goals.

In order to really take it to a higher level of appreciation and performance, it also requires that you understand where all of this has come from and where its going, that will allow you to tread new ground and create something entirely new and original. There are great links on the GN's home page and effectively using a search engine will produce tons more sites.
