Hello Everyone!

I need a little help picking a new guitar. I've been playing for a few months now and I'm ready to commit to buying a quality guitar. Right now I have an Alvarez ad60 I bought used (and have been pleasantly surprised with) and a cheap squier strat my parents bought me when I was 12. I like the strat but it's awful small for my sausage fingers.

My experience level: 5 months

Music type: I love classic country (hence the username) but I also love classic rock and 90s alternative. So I need something versatile.

Acoustic/Electric: open to either, just best value for the money and my music style.

Budget: $500

Wants: I want something fast-fretting, low-action, good for learning on. Also want something with a wider neck. I'm 6'3" and 300 lbs so I have sausage fingers. I also need something versatile enough to work for all my music types. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend you an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. This guitar has a good clean tone and awesome distortion sound. It also good for playing any musical style.
You will save your money for purchasing other gears, because this guitar is sold at an affordable price. You can also check other best beginner guitar through this link http://itsguitar.review/best-beginner-guitar/

I hear you man. I'm a big guy as well but the right hand position with good arch on your fingers will allow you to play any guitar. Its more technecs then genetics.

$500 is a good budget and for $200-$300 you could get an epiphone les Paul standard or classic etc. It will sound good and look cool but for $500 you can go up to another level and get a used Gibson and maybe even a used American fender strat.

Gibson les Paul JR in the $400-$500 range. You will not have the fancy binding on the body and neck you may feel the edges of the frets because of no binding and your not going to have a flame top like the epiphone may have but you will hear the difference. Every so often I see a used Gibson studio in the $500 range but typically range in the $600-$650 so more realistic with les Paul JR

You can get a Mexican fender for $300-$400 range. America fender strat sells used for $500 and up. You see a lot in $600 range but if you shop you can find one in $500. I just sold a highway one for $500 and it had scratches or I would of pushed more. You really feel the difference in Mexican vs American they look similar but you really get what you pay for

Hey,

It's great that you are doing a research.
When you are a beginner, you have to consider many things when you buy the guitar. You probably know this already since you have some experience (5 months, as I see).
There are couple of guitars that I would suggest you. I've reviewed all of them in my blog post. There you might find some useful tips for beginner guitarists too.
Since it would be quite a long post to write everything here, you can check out the article if you want.
Here is a link to it: http://acousticgo.com/how-to-choose-acoustic-guitar-for-beginners/

If you're looking for a wider neck, check out a Seagull guitar. They are comfortable to play and should be right in your budget.

Hope this helps.

Peace

Your very clear on what genre of music you like to play and what type of a guitar player you want to be...

For that budget you can buy an Epiphone Les Paul Standard or an Epiphone Les Paul Classic T, Second hand Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul.
