Is the intro to this song fingerpicked or played using a pick? My boy wants me to learn how to play it (the Limp Bizkit version), so I am trying to figure out which way would be easier to do. I have zero experience fingerpicking, but if it will be easier to learn that way, then I might try it.

Townshend uses a pick when playing live, and the recording sounds like he's using a pick too, so I'd try it that way. Also I can't imagine Limp Bizkit playing it fingerpicked. Just try both ways and see which you like better

I play it with a pick, I find anything played with the pick easier, guess its just a matter of preferance.
