I don't hear about it too often, but I do hear about it enough for it to bother me! How exactly do I "bend" a string?

You get a couple of fingers under the string, pluck the note, and then push the string toward the middle of the fretboard to make the note rise in pitch.

What do you mean "push the string toward the middle...." Do I roll my fingers, or put one finger on top and push down? Sorry, but I'm SO lost!
