I am still debating whether or not to even get a book now that I found this wonderful website and forum! (all my stupid questions have been answered so quickly and kindly :) ) But if I decide to, does anyone have any suggestions? I would like something that is easy to read for absolute beginner's, but not one that I will grow out of in a short time...
Any suggestions?

No matter what you wind up getting, I'd suggest you try to get one that comes with a CD so you can hear what you're trying to play. It really helped me. I had a couple of books without CDs and was lost on any songs I didn't already know.
Best of luck!!!!
 There is a web site called Guitar Secrets at http://www.guitarsecrets.com which has some free lessons and a CD that you can buy. I have the CD which is excellent also the free lessons are good cd has drum tracks and stuff on it so you can lead over a recording or just the oppisite and have drums playing along. Very good cd and web site I highly recommend it alot of info covered, They also recommend other guitar links and guitar noise is one of them. Check it out.

I'm really enjoying Troy Stetina's TOTAL ROCK.
Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing. - Wernher Von Braun (1912-1977)
Yeah, Stetina has a great rep in music publishing. I also like a bunch of books from Alfred Publishing. Man, there are so many, Acoustic Guitar, Rock Guitar, Jazz Guitar, Blues Guitar. Each of those consists of three volumes, each of those with a CD. Great basic info and plenty of musical examples.
