Hey folks, learning a new song, here's the sequence:

------------
------------
----------4---------4-----4
------5@--------7------5-----5
---5*------------------------
-----------------------------

the goal here is to get the * to ring out the entire sequence, and the @ to ring out until the 7th fret is played

my current technique: im using an e chord shape for the first three notes, and then using my pinky finger to get the 7th fret - this works, but i was wondering if anyone could come up with something less pinky-involved.

Arjen's got a good point. The notes, as you've got them written out, are D, G, B, A, B, G, B, G. Why not use open string and simply play the A on the second fret of the G string. You'll get some cool ringing from the open B string as well.

Peace

Yeah, that is easy to play with the open strings, but if you want to play it as shown, simply stretch your pinky out to play the note at the 7th.

----------------------------------
----------------------------------
----------4---------4-----4-------
------5@--------7------5-----5----
---5*-----------------------------
----------------------------------
m r i p i r i r

i= index finger
m=middle finger
r= ring finger
p= pinky finger

This figure reminds me of the famous Beatles riff in I Feel Fine. In this song you hold a barre E type chord but have to use your pinky to play some extra notes. Takes a little practice to develop the stretch for this song.

D

e--12--------------------------------------
b--12--------------------------------------
g--11---------------------12-11-----11-----
d--12--------12—12p-10-----------14-----14-
a--12------------------12------------------
e--10----10--------------------------------
i p p i r p m p m p

After the D chord figure, simply move down to the 8th fret and play the same pattern in C, then move down to the 3rd fret to play it in G. That's where the pinky stretch gets difficult, but John Lennon makes it look easy. :D

Know you didn't ask for that, but sometimes you want to play riffs as shown, so you've gotta get used to using your pinky finger. :wink:

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
