I have recently discover the joys of capo :D Just a quick question if I place the capo on the second fret (F#,B,E,A,C#,F#) and I played the following
--------------------------- 9-------------------
- ---------12---------12------12--- ----------
----- 11--------11------------------11-------
---9--------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
Would I play 9 frets down from the capo or the 9th fret?
Thanks in advance :D
9 frets down from the capo. the capo is the new nut.
It depends - the only way to tell is to try it! If it's a tab you've found, most tabbers do it the way Pearl suggested - the notes are relative to the nut, but the capo IS the nut to all intents and purposes. On the other hand, some people just go off the fret markers, in which case you'd have to add the number of the fret the capo is on to each note, i.e if it's tabbed 12-9-10 you'd have to play 14-11-12.
It does help if people stipulate "all notes relative to capo."
:D :D :D

I would try it from the capo first
It gets a little hard to pick those '9's and '12's from the Capo when you put the Capo on the 5th or 6th fret!
Have a safe and pleasant day.
