Hello!

I am a beginner at guitar, I have been playing for about three months now, and I would really like some help on breaking down the chords in the intro of this video;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGlfqb8DFFI

All I would like to learn is the main riff, and I'm having trouble in terms of knowing which strings pick and at which position to do it at.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

I can help you. I went after learning this song the instant after buying the record when it first came out. this is a great song and is relatively easy to play. bear with me, it is awkward using a keyboard to show you the lick.
the song is in E. the chords for the opening are played open. E , D, A.
even back in the 1960's Keith Richards was brilliant with coming up with simple yet signature song beginnings.
here is how I play the riff:
middle finger on the 3rd string 3nd fret
puck the string and slide to the 4th fret
next
the index finger goes on the 2nd string 3rd fret and is plucked
next
middle finger goes back to the 3rd string 3rd fret and slides to the 4th fret while being plucked (as before)
next the ring finger goes to the 2nd string 5th fret which is plucked
finally
middle finger on the 3rd string 4thfret and plucked
and the index finger plays the 2nd string 3rd fret.
then slide down to play the A chord ; I use my index finger to flatten out the 2nd and 3rd string over the 2nd fret
just play those two strings. mute the others if you have to.
let me know when you want to try the solo.
it's a great song I been playin my whole life

Going to have to try that one myself - I tried playing it with an arpeggiated E7 (022130) then D then A, never sounded quite "there" - going to have to watch that video carefully.

Good luck with it, McJagger, and thanks for the pointers Dogbite!

:D :D :D

(PS - I LOVE that Tele the guy's playing in the vid!!!!)
