I have been having problems with pain in my ring finger of my fretting hand and also my hand will tire out quickly when playing Metallica type music. Am I overdoing it or is it something that has to be built up?

Judging by your other posts, you've not been playing long so yes, you are trying to run before you can walk.
Back off the complexity to something more manageable and come back to Metallica later.
