Hello All,

I just found this site and I am so happy! I have been trying to play the guitar on and off for about 15 years but like most people got frustrated. The last time I touched the guitar was about 7 years ago. I teach physical education and I have my summers off so I made a promise to myself that I will use that time to learn. I am a bit older now (and hopefully more mature!) to be able to stick with it this time. I have a lot of GREAT guitar stores around me including the great House of Guitars in Rochester, NY which I plan on checking out today (some of you may have heard of HOG?).

Anyway, the guitar I have had since the beginning is a Fender San Luis Rey Acoustic that I purchased around 1990-91. (I will post a picture sometime later today.) Its a great acoustic guitar for a beginner because the neck is similar to that of an electric...meaning narrow with great action. Every guitarist that has have ever tried it said they couldn't believe how nice it was.

When I first started the guitar I didn't have the internet so I was limited to books and what people showed me. I feel I can find more information now so I am hoping that will help me to stay motivated (I am an information junky!!). However when I tried to Google the San Luis Rey the only real information I found was this from Fender: http://www.fender.com/support/dating/acoustic_dating.php . My guitar is listed under the California Series. It basically just helps to date the guitar.

Is there a place I can go to find more information about my guitar? I would like to find out what it's worth now and any other information I can find on it (Like I said...JUNKY!) Or maybe one of you may have heard about the San Luis Rey and can share your experience with it.

I will say that this is by far the best site I found on guitars!

Thanks!

As far as researching your model, check around on eBay for pricing, it'll give you an idea of the relative value of a particular model. I wouldn't go off only one listing, just keep an eye out over time and you'll get a fair idea.

Another place for info is the Vintage Guitar price list; they publish it every year and there's probably one at your local bookstore.

There's also the Blue Book of Guitars. It's a sort of trade catalogue, which gives values of guitars and some useful info on construction, etc.. Trouble is the book is not cheap - BUT - last year's is often to be found in the reduced books section of your local guitar shop. Just have a look through.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I thought that was Arnold. I competeted for many years, even qualified for Nationals, but while in training, a front Deltoid tear ended that phase of my life. :(

I competed for a few years a well...my best was 6th place in the Mr Buffalo...never went farther than that...I eventually got into powerlifting when I was 30 years old...I did good with it...435 bench, 505 squat, and a crappy deadlift of 450...I have always had a bad back so deadlifts were terrible...

Now I can barely lift my guitar!! LOL
