Hi,

I'm interested in learning slide guitar.
Is it better to start off using a slide or focus on picking and then add the slide later on.
My thinking is that it seems like you don't use frets much with the slide, so if my primary focus is learning slide there's not much point in developing all of my finger placement habits around picking.

Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Finger picking is a right hand technique - if you can't get this bit right, you're in trouble.

Finger placement is a left hand technique - if you're going to play one chord a night then you need to get this right

And start working on slide in parallel with all the other stuff

both are techniques of different hands so you should practise them side by side, slide is much easier though.
