Playing a 7 - 4 stretch power chord and a 5 - 2 stretch power chord has me buzzing the 7th and 5th frets on the A string.
Any tips aside from practice? lol - my little finger isnt strong enough to keep it held down i think?
I cant use the finger tip on my small finger - just the side of it..
Never heard of a 7-4 stretch power chord or a 5-2 stretch power chord either. Most power chords are "5" chords where you play the root and 5th.
Not saying you can't play other notes, you can play anything you like, but I have never heard these particular chords you mentioned.
If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
Wes, my interpretation is that Mike means chords like;
--x-----
--x-----
--x-----
--7-----
--4----
--x-----
in a progression such as
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----7-------7----------5-------5-----
-----5-------4----------3-------2-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
or as in the intro to "By the way" by RHCP:
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10--10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-
--8---8--8--8--8---8--8--8----7--7--7---7--7--7---7---7-
--------------------------------------------------------------
They are a bit of a stretch, but with practice they're not too hard! (Sorry, no other advice Mike :( )

I use power chord loosely lol.
Its like this;
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------7-----
-----x-------5----------x-------x-----
moving to;
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------7-----
-----4-------x----------x-------x-----
then to;
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
-----x-------x----------x-------5-----
-----2-------x----------x-------x-----

I can only play the 7th and 5 fret in the middle of the fret board it self.
If you are really stuck, my suggestion would be to tune to drop D. Then you would play:
e-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
B-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
G-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
D-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
A-----x-------x----------x-------7-----
D-----x-------7----------x-------x-----
moving to;
e-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
B-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
G-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
D-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
A-----x-------x----------x-------7-----
D-----6-------x----------x-------x-----
then to;
e-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
B-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
G-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
D-----x-------x----------x-------x-----
A-----x-------x----------x-------5-----
D-----4-------x----------x-------x-----
Might be a solution?

If i tune to Drop D, can i just do it on those two strings?
As im playing frets 1 and 2 on the G string, playing high E open and playing D open.
Playing a 7 - 4 stretch power chord and a 5 - 2 stretch power chord has me buzzing the 7th and 5th frets on the A string.

it seems you're playing an augmented power chord, ain't you? I tried them a few times and they seem quite easy to me, for sure a lot easier than the classic rock shuffle where for a G chord you'd play
3
5

then

7

I can tell you that this five-frets strecht is quite hard to do!
In any case it is all a matter of improving your hand strecht. An useful exercise it so play the A or E blues shuffle with the 7th included where you play the root with index, the fourth with ring and the 7th with pinky, this way spanning 4 frets like in the augmented power chords
sorry but even if I can play it, I do not remember the correct fingering at the moment
:D
