I know this may sound kinda dumb but could somebody basically tell me what frets are on a guitar?

You know those little strips of metal on your guitar that, when you put your finger in between them, change the sound of the string?
Frets.

There the metal strips that run vertical to the strings. There are about 22 on a electric guitar, but can very from guitar to guitar.
