Get a Dean EVO XM. Really is a great guitar for starting out, no flaws at all, costs $99.

I think she said acoustic...

They make pretty good electrics, and I don't know about the acoustics, but if you buy one, and then get a good setup by a luthier (You could probably find one in your local music shop), so it's not too hard to play...

Good luck buying! :)

+1 on Rondo. I just got a SX Les Paul copy in a natural mahagony finish that's looks great and plays like a dream. For $150 bucks, you just cannot beat these deals. The pups sound great, no pops out of the selector switch. My next guitar will most likely come from Rondo as well, maybe a hollow body :D

My two cents: Washburn D-10. About 50 bucks more than your wanting to spend but the Chinese have got it figured out with this guitar. It is the best guitar for under $500. Good quality guitar with good tone and action. Get it at Musicians Friend and I think it qualifies for free shipping.

Musician's Friend has the Epiphone AJ-1 on sale for $89.99. I'm actually going to be ordering one to just mess around on at the park & what not. Sounds like a nice guitar for the $, spruce top & mahogony back & sides. Check it out: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=141/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/518681/?c_bg=1

BTW, welcome to GN! :D

I'll second this Epiphone. Darn nice guitar for the money.

I usd to own a Washburn also, mine was a D-11 that I bought for $200 used at music-go-round. It had the easiest action of any acoustic I had picked up at the time. I could only play about 2 or 3 chords at the time, so s person can tell how good a guitar plays without much experience. Make sure it doesn't buzz too much either. The best way is to have an experienced person go with you. If you have to do it alone for some reason, like I did, then play around on a LOT of guitars of all price ranges to see what the differences are in feel.

I bought a Cort Earth 70 a little while ago. $200CAD. Solid spruce top. Absolutely no complaints at this point. Seems very well made, certainly so for the price.
