I want to learn Green Day - Good Riddance. I would like to achieve it sometime this week.
I have a vague idea of the chords that I need to practice. Not sure about the finger picking though.
Does anybody know the strumming pattern for this song? and how to finger pick it? Will it take me a while to learn?

This is my absolute favourite song to play on the acoustic, it shouldn't take you long to learn it's relatively simple!

As you sing "life" you start to strum G. The chord pattern for the rest of the song is the same as above

G > C9 > Dsus4 for the first part of the verse

Em7 > Dsus4 > C9 > G for the second part of the verse

After the last chorus do two rounds of G > C9 > Dsus4 then go straight into the chorus fingerpicking again

On "life" slow strum of G, and you're done :D

As for the strum pattern itself, that's quite hard to write down, because it mixes up a lot while it's being played :)

The basic pattern is;

d d u d u u d dudu on the verse G

d d dud on the verse C9

u u d dudu on the verse Dsus4

d d dudu on the verse Em7

Your best bet is to listen to the song a lot and try to strum along, it may take a little while to get the rythm right, the hardest part is getting the up strums and down strums in the right place, but follow what I wrote above and you'll get it.

This was one of the first songs that I learned but it took me a long time to get it up to tempo.
