Hey,
I was told about some good software (but can't remember the name) where you can enter in tab (or maybe download tabs into it?) and then play the song back at whatever speed you want.

Thought this would be really helpful in trying to learn the faster bits of songs where I can find tabs off the internet, but not actual sheet music and can't play nearly fast enough to keep up with the actual song.

Does anyone know what this might be, or something similar, or even suggestions on other good instructional software for a beginner/novice?

Thanks,
Tyler

I don't think that this is exactly what your looking for but it helped me a ton. Guitar pro is a program you can get at http://www.mysongbook.com or power tab is the same idea.

I can look back with a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent.

The Power Tab Editor will do that too.

One of the major limiting factors in Tab Player is that it requires strict conformance to tab writing. Almost every tab I tried in it needed to be modified to work. It works pretty good on lead tabs that are done on a tab scale but will not work at all on tabs where the chords are just written above the lyrics.
If it looks like this it will work

Em G
e--0---3--
B--0---0--
G--0---0--
D--2---0--
A--2---2--
E--0---3--

But not like this

Em G
Words to a songs
