How do I raise the saddle without getting a new one? I think its called a shim?
Also, are heavier strings less likely to buzz than light strings?
Yes and yes.

Yea, but how do I do make/install a shim?
Readers Digest version:
- Remove strings (or you may be able to loosen them a lot).
- Remove bridge(it should simply lift out).
- Insert shim(s) in bridge slot.
- Replace bridge.
- Restring/retune.
Sorry for the lack of detail, but I'm having server problems.Gotta go.

Most music stores carry a wide variety of saddles. They are cheap, usually $3-5. Take your saddle out and take it with you. Make sure to get the proper width and thickness, that is important. You want the saddle to be snug, with a proper fit. Tell the owner you want to raise the action a little. They will help you pick out one with the proper width and thickness that is a little taller. Hey, buy a couple and experiment.
