Hi, im new to this guitar lark, been playing since September 2004. Bought a tanglewood acoustic (steel string) guitar but havent changed the strings since. I practice at least an hour every day. All the strings sound fine apart from the G-which sounds a bit muted. Does this mean i should change the strings?
Cheers
Kev
Yes. That's a long time for strings, even for coated strings like the elixirs. I sometimes go for maybe two months or so with elixirs, but they're coated and do last longer. I'd change if I were you.

Definitely get new strings. You're going to be so surprised at the sound of your guitar when you get those new babies on there!
PS: First post. Hi everybody.
Cheers, next is stringing the guitar without damaging it!!!

Yeah, but ivest in a quality pair though, I bought some cheapy fenders and the d string broke after a day of playing! Eathwoods are good for the price though.

I change mine probably once a month now. I love the way the new strings sound, it encourages me to play more. After you have changed strings several times, it goes pretty fast.
Yeah, was gonna ask what you guys think are the best kind of strings and what difference does the guage make?
One of GN's earliest authors used to say:
"40 hours or 40 days, whichever comes first."
You can probably double these times for coated strings, like Elixirs.
And bass strings never go bad... (is joke).
