This applies to underwear too. It doesn't matter if it's your favorite pair, you'll benefit from changing them.

Pfft, I just go commando. Lots of dates, less work and less laundry.

When I play a note (particularly an open string) and then just let it ring, the note varies slightly and eventually starts to get flatter.

On a decent guitar should the note remain perfect until it dies?The first answer you got, "Yes," isn't quite accurate. All strings vibrate at a higher pitch when they're vibrating through a wider range. As the string is swinging out farther to each side on its oscillations, it's being stretched just as it is when you "bend" a note. It's especially obvious when you use light gauge strings and pick hard that a note will be sharp right after the attack and go flatter as it dies out. It happens with all strings to a greater or lesser extent, though.
