I have a slightly unusual problem. I have been asked to play guitar in a performance of "Joseph" in a few weeks. The song is "Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows)".

Here it is on youtube if you don't know it. It's basically an early rock and roll, Elvis pastiche. Quite fun.

Anyway, I'm a beginner, 6 months in and have been asked to play. I don't read music and I can't decipher by ear at all. What I'm looking for is ideas- any other songs with leads or riffs that are tabbed that would fit with it? Or a chord progression that could be played along with it?

Will this help for starters?
E

Well I was wandering along by the banks of the river
When seven fat cows came up out of the Nile, uh-huh
And right behind these fine healthy animals came
Seven other cows, skinny and vile, uh-huh
A
Well the thin cows ate the fat cows which I
Thought would do them good, uh-huh
E
But it didn't make them fatter like such
A monster supper should

A
Well the thin cows were as thin
Bb B
As they had ever, ever, ever been
E
Well this dream has got me baffled
G A E
Hey, Joseph, won't you tell me what it means?

A Bb B
Well you know that kings ain't stupid
E A Bb B
But I don't have a clue
E A Bb B
So don't be cruel Joseph
B7
Help me I beg of you
E
Well I was standing doing nothing in a field out of town
When I saw seven beautiful ears of corn, uh-huh
They were ripe, they were golden and
You've guessed it,
Right behind them came seven other ears
Tattered and torn, uh-huh
A
Well the bad corn ate the good corn
They came up from behind yes they did
E
Now Joseph here's the punch line
It's really gonna blow your mind
A
Well the bad corn was
Bb B
As bad as it had ever, ever, ever been
E
Well this dream has got me all shook up
G A E
Treat me nice and tell me what it means
F#7
Hey, hey, hey Joseph
B7
Won't you tell poor old Pharaoh
E E7 A C#m6 E
What does this crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, dream mean?
B7 E7
Oh yeah

Hope this is readable, I have 2 sons who love the show and want me to learn it all!!!
Regards

Geoff, that's absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much. Looks fairly easy actually. Now all I need is a few licks to play over the top and I'll be fine. Thinking about some Chuck Berry or some easy blues things?
