I just started not quite a month ago and i'm feeling happy with my progress so far. I have all the shapes of the open chords memorized and have been practicing changing between them. I found that once you learn a few chords very well try not to watch your fret hand while switching. I beleive while I was watching switching chords I was thinking to much, but once I started not looking at them I realized I was doing better than I thought . I'm finally getting a good strumming stroke down also(i never thought strumming would be so hard). Sorry for the short story lol, just thought i'd share my beginners progress.
That's a great way to look at your progress. Have you had any buzzing or muting.....or are your open chords coming out pretty clean? Thanks for sharing.
I'm still getting a few muted strings here and there but its when i try to speed up a little. I get some buzzing on a few chords but I think its just my junk guitar not set up properly with high action. After christmas my wife said she would get me a guitar of my choice around $500. I been playing around with a song that has G,C,and Am in it . I still gotta go a little bit slower but I'm gettin better. I just keep telling myself (it's only been 1 month since I learned my first chord).
Very cool. I'd definitely suggest you try a lot of guitars before you settle on one. Having a guitar that you're really comfortable with will only encourage you to play more. Having your new guitar set up will also help......most reputable guitar places charge around $50 to $75 for a setup.
