Right to the point. I'm mesmerized with the sounds of an electric guitar, but all my family had is a classical acoustic guitar for me to use. I've lost interest learning on it pretty much because I don't like very many songs with acoustic guitar.
I don't like to whine, but I could at least ask for help to get me back on the guitar. I have been playing off and on for 6 months. Mostly off. I also really don't have any solid learning assistance; I just browse websites for lessons.
If you like metal on the acoustic, check out Rodrigo y Gabriella. They do covers of famous old metal songs as well as playing their own stuff.
Maybe they've done some teaching vids on the ol' youtube. Just get looking

And...play the blues.
I know, blues isn't what you want...but it contains the basis of most of the harder rock styles. Blues'll sound okay on an old acoustic. And when you manage to get an electric, you'll be ready!
Best,
