Amazon sells the complete method, but without a CD. It also sells the individual volumes 1, 2, (not 3?), with the CDs. Are the CDs that important?

Thanks!

"Are the CDs that important?"

my guess is yes, why would a guitar lesson plan come with CDs if they weren't part of the lessons?

Depends on your learning style.

I generally prefer individual method books to complete editions, though (with or without CDs). The Modern Method - the Berklee series - is going to take a typical guitarist several years to get through. By the time you're working on book 3, a complete set tends to fall apart.

My set is old, and I know they've changed the format since then... mine is 8-1/2x11, and most students bring in a 9x12 version. Maybe they also changed the glue. But over the years, my set has become a collection of loose pages wrapped up in a cover :)

Like NoteBoat, my old Modern Method Books (I bought them in the mid '70s) are loose sheets as the bindings are gone...I recently replaced one with a new edition, though not one with a CD. You may want to get the CD edition, however. I'm not sure what's on the CD, but in the books there are lots of duets and I'd venture to guess that they've included both parts of the duets so you can play along. That alone would be worth getting the CD. When I first worked through the books I recorded myself on cassette so I could play the duets. As a student, that may not be a bad idea, but it would probably be nice to have a professional to play along with too :)
