Hi all

even if I'm quite satisfied with my guitar learning, I'd like to be able to play some classic metal and hard rock songs (Iron Maiden would be great). Assuming that I have to learn to play good power chords, does anyone know could suggest me some typical heavy metal rhythm to learn?

From the best of my knowledge I guess that

dd/dd/dd/dd

or dd/ddu/dd/ddu

played at high bpm (let's say 150-160)

are good starting point but I guess there is something else (sometimes not in 4/4 either)...

thanks for any help

Matteo

Matteo,

I don't play much metal but I don't think you'll find alot of metal rhythm that uses upstrokes it's all about downstrokes and palm muting for the most part.

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

You don't usually use strumming patterns when playing power chords. Most often you will find that most metal songs are built up from riffs using powerchords. I know there is a lesson GN about powerchords and riffs. There are some examples from different songs, try to search for it.

Might I suggest Troy Stetina's "Metal Rhythm Guitar Book".
