Happy new year!
My name's Tom I've had guitars for years but due to attention deficit I've never been able to stick at it. Now I'm a bit older and have the focus and discipline to stick at things.
Anyway I'm just feeling a little lost at where to start. There seems to be a billion books out there. I know how to play basic chords and started learning scales a few years back. I want to be able to play melodic metal like in the link below:

I understand I am years away from this level of playing. What sort of route should I be taking for this style of playing? Are there any books that are like guitar bibles?
Thanks,
Tom
You can search for Guitar Chord Bible PDF edition on Techgara if you can't buy it.
I don't actually play guitar, but I got that book for my wife, and she loves it.
I would recommend starting with basic chords, then moving on to some youtube tutorials.
I would recommend you getting a proper human tutor who can fix what you're doing wrong in a way YouTube can't
