I know this is a guitar forum, but I just gotta say that I got a new instrument today. A Kentucky KM150S mandolin, now I just gotta learn to play it. Since I already play guitar, it seems real easy to pick up, as compared to when I learned (still learnin) guitar. For those who think they don't need to know theory, let me tell you its mighty important. The little bit I know really helps with a new instrument.
Post pictures! Hey aren't the Kentucky mandos made by the same folks who make Blueridge guitars?
I just got a Big Muddy M-1

Love it for Celtic-style stuff. :)
And I totally agree - a little theory goes a LONG way when picking up a new instrument. Especially when the tuning is upside down!

Causnorign congratulations on the new baby! :-D
If it gives you as much fun as it has given me you'll have a ball. In terms of the theory issue I was lucky because I was steered toward web sites that were full of abc tunes suitable for mandolin. Although my software was capable of creating tabs from this source I wanted to be able to do it properly. So I started to learn and what a difference. I am far from being an expert but it has given me the opportunity to learn tunes that previously would have been inaccessible to me.
You may also want to check out your local library for books and CDs on mandolin. Perhaps I am lucky but my local one has a great collection.

What did the guitarist do when he was told to turn on his amp?
He caressed it softly and told it that he loved it.
Mandolins are a quick learn after guitar. Go have fun
Best,

They're imported by the same people that import Blueridges (Saga music). I suppose they're made in one of the Chineese factories that gave the lowest price. I'm sorta web slow and can't figure out how to post pictures  [/img]
Very nice! Congrats! I think this could be a good site for photos:

And Mitch, very nice your mando, too! Simple and beautiful!
Are you both ready for a demo? :D

The first thing you have to do is upload your picture to a hosting site, such as photobucket.com or villagephotos.com or your own website.
When you go to post it here, hit the image (Img) button once, paste the URL (the web address of the photo ... must end in .jpg or .gif), then hit the image button again. It should look like this but without the spaces....
When you hit submit, the post will show the picture and not the line of code.
Now..... where's the pictures? :D

Ah, that's what I thought. I believe they also do the Trinity College line of octave mandolins.
Yours looks nice and smokey. ;) I've read they are a very good value.

She's lovely! I started on mandolin and then added guitar. Mandolins are just so darn cute and nothing could be more portable. Ya gotta love 'em. Those guitar calluses you already have will come in very handy!
