Hello

I bought a Yamaha gig set. Having problem with chords. When I strum the guitar the open strings have no sound as my finger making the cord it rubbing up against the open string.. I have tried all kinds of hand positioning with no luck.

Any assistance would is appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert

It’s a pity, if he is still there.

This forum can be a bit quiet, but the people stay on topic within a post. Patience is key.

Pull your elbow all the way into your side.
Try to make your fingers come straight down on the strings. Some chords, you can be a bit sloppy (the index on the D major doesn't have to come straight down). But you want to be as straight as possible. Look at the ruts in your finger tips. If they are slashing at an extreme angle, you're not straight enough.

It sounds like you might be playing on the flat of your fingers instead of your finger tips. You can fix this by rotating your hand up a little.

If you're still having trouble, make a short video of your fretting hand and post it here so we can see exactly what you're doing.
