I almost always use 1-2-3-4 usin both finger, but if I have to choose one it's 1-2-3.

Thanks folks. I suspected that I'd be wanting to learn both and apply as best fits the situation. What's kind of amusing to me is that none of the books I've consulted indicate that there is an alternate fingering - it's their way or the highway, I guess.
Patrick Swayze would be proud. And that's all that matters.

i try and use both, but have more success in making the actual chord sound properly with 1 2 3..

One of my books suggests an alternate fingering using just two fingers...

So now the question is, 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, 2 and 4... or 3 and 4? (I don't usually play this version of the G chord but I'm sure it can be handy).
