Is it normal for the output jack on the guitar to come loose, and how tight should it be.

Yes, Just snug it down then give it about 1/4 turn. You may have to use a needle nose pliers to hold the inside from turning, if you don't it can spin around and break wires off. Then you have even more of a repair job.

Easier than holding it with a needle nose: Find a flat-blade screwdriver those blade tip's size and taper is just enough to fit partially into the jack. Use this with light pressure (doesn't take much) to keep the jack from rotating while tightening the nut with an open-end wrench (spanner). Don't force anything. After tightening, use Locktite, clear fingernail polish or even a small amount of superglue to lock the nut on the threads -- take care not to get any of those on the guitar's finish.
