I'm learning Master of Puppet by Metallica right now and in 3 weeks, I made big improvement on speed, alternate picking and power chords with this song, but still need to work on palm muting...

This song is almost always in palm muting and I can't find a comfortable position for my picking hand to mute at least the 3rd-4th-5th-6th string and pick the string at the right tempo.

I'm able to mute the 6th and half of the time, the 5th is also muted but it has to be muted everytime..

The problem is when mute all the string, my picking is becoming SO BAD and slower... Looks like finger are too close to the string and I can't do every movement that I want, that I use to do normally...

Any tips?

I thought it was my own
I could feel it in my heartbeat
I could feel it in my bones

tips? I rest my palm on the bridge. the fleshy part touches the strings. then it is a matter of building strength in the wrist and hand. when I am in this position my wrist sort of rocks as I pick. it remains planted so the mutes do not change. after awhile the muscles simply tire because a lot of tension is held. I don't speed metal generally, but fast downstroking has merits and uses. I imagine it is not good for long term. I am picturing the tiny muscles and tendons head bobbing for awhile then they eventually just want it to stop.
I also think an advantage to the trashed out tone is to hide the slop from a tired wrist.

I have this problem too! I was taught to strum with the whole arm in a pedulum motion, so, when I try palm mute it's like everything stops? Some songs I'll just PM with the fingers but it wears them out, and, it doesn't always sound right.

Now, I've tried resting my palm on the strings but then I have no range of motion for strumming? Well, when I use a pick. Without the pick I can get away with it. (IE, "For what it's worth").

when resting the wrist it is true there is a tighter range of motion. it is felt in the back of the hand, wrist and top forearm.
however, with the tight range of motion you have less ground to cover. keep at it. build up strength.

I find that during palm muting, it better to have only downstrokes. That gives the most satisfying 'chuck'.

Rest is all practice (and some patience).

Good Luck.

Yeah, Master of puppets is normally all dowstrokes, but at a tempo of 220, it's hard to get it all downstroke, so my teacher told me to play it with alternate picking, but as said before, I have less motion of strumming...

Practice, practice...
