What are passing tones? A friend was playing pentatonic scales and such and mentioned that he was adding passing tones. Didn't think to ask what that meant at the time. Now I am wondering.

Passing Tones/ Passing Notes are notes that are between two other notes a third apart
So, if you play the notes A-B-C over an Am chord, B is a Passing Note.
