Hi,

I am learning The Violent Femmes" song "Blister in the Sun" and my guitar teacher has asked me to try and work out phasing for the opening riff which is repeated 3 times.I can play the riff but when I do it doesn't sound like song,so how do I work out the phasing to it?Thanks.

Cheers Bruce

Hi Bruce. I think you mean phrasing. Maybe that will help, I mean you could look it up and see what applies. It should come.

I think the best way to pick it up is to learn the song itself so you have it in your head, then hum it out. Or in this case do do do it out. Doo Doo DoDo Do DO DooDOo Do, this will let you slow it down in your head so you can speed it up on your fingers at your own pace.... other than that just play the first 5 seconds of the song on repeat and try to keep up with it.
