I've lately been twisting my pick about 30 degrees when
playing notes fast. (just seemed to happen)

So instead of the flat tip of the pick plucking the strings it's
more like the rounded part of the pick tip "bumps" over the
strings.

Am I learning a bad crutch that will have be "excised" out of me
when I start lessons again? I hate unlearning bad habits

There are quite a few people that don't use the tip of a pick and prefer the rounded side.

I can't see how to do that, but maybe that's why I can't shred. Whatever works for you, do it.

I'm confused. Are you using a part of the pick other than the tip, or are you slanting the pick so that it hits the string with its edge rather than its face? The former is a valid approach (and sharkfin picks make it even cooler), and the second is the best way to attack the string, unless you're going for extra twang.

Guess my skill at discription suck..
Yes I'm slanting the pick so it hits the edge, not the face all done on the tip of the pick... not the back part.
I'm loving the new speed it gives me...
And I do like the sound more.
Is there a site to get more instruction on picking?

Thanks for the replies!!

Stan

I try to describe slanting the pick like that all the time and I always have trouble with it. It's just a tricky thing to talk about. At least I didn't have to pull out the "Are you rotating the pick about an axis normal to the face of the guitar?" That's the only really clear description I've managed to think of.

I do the same thing, it helps the strings to kinda slide under the pick, which can give you quite a bit of extra speed.

The first time I heard a Beatles song was "Let It Be." Some little kid was singing along with it: "Let it pee, let it pee" and pretending he was taking a leak. Hey, that's what happened, OK?-some guy
