I would master the basic chords for now. play them until they are comfortable and second nature.

depending on which genre of music you intend to play. a few basic chords is all you need. ie, Neil Young.
but if you plan to do jazz comping, well, then there are many chords.

Ive been playing for almost forty years. sure, I know tons of chords. but I mainly play those chords posted above 90 percent of the time.

once the basic chords are comfortable you must work on the rythm playing. transitioning form one chord to another with rythm is essential.
