I've been to the Bon Jovi show in Montreal and they played their first hit: Runaway.
Richie Sambora, the guitarist, did something really nice with his guitar called a pick slide at 17-18 sec of the video:

What I want to know is how to do that  I'm actually able to do a pick slide, but Sambora is doing a slide at the same time on an other string, crossing his 2 hands on the fretboard.
Do I have to hit the string before sliding my finger on it while I'm doing a pick slide on the other string?
And do I have to start that slide at a precise place on the neck? Where?
Which string does he play the pick slide? And the finger slide?
Thanks!

I cannot get into the link; it asks for a password.?????
pick slides are fun. I use the fat low e string. and where I start depends on when the mood hits me. so it does not matter precisely where you start. not seeing the video clip I am not sure about the other hand. but I would guess that he starts the finger slide on the appropriate note in the musical phrase he started or is setting up.
Yes, it is askinf for a passwd :?
I found something similar on You tube, but the quality is poor...

I can't really see the video very well, but it just sounds to me like he is doing a Pick Slide on the E, but before he finishes the slide, he does a hammer-on and a slide downward on the A.
I'd be interested to hear what the others think.

You may be right
Is it normal to hear the E string after the pick slide or do I have to mute it after?

Everytime I try an do a pick slide I leave a groove in the side of my pick

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll!

Do it gently ;)
Mis,
I've tried that but I never seem to get much of a sound. I think you need the gain turned up a bit to really hear it.

most of my picks have a serrated edge from pick sliding...badge!
I went back and listened to the CD version and all I can hear is the pick slide. It looks like he does the live version a little different.
But to answer your question, when I do the hammer on the A string, I slightly touch the E string with the tip of my finger. It sounds pretty close to the video, but the sound quality wasn't very good. If I was trying to match the CD I would just do the pick slide, followed by and open E then an A barre power chord. Of course that's just the way I hear it.
Thanks for the answers!
Another one:
When I have to do a pick slide, how do I have to do it?
Right now, I slide my pick on the side of the E string (between the E and the A string)..
Is it ok, or it's better to slide over the string?

I don't there's a particular way to do it, since it really depends on the sound you're trying to get. Sometimes you may need to do a double pick slide, sliding over two strings.
So I think it's just a matter of playing around with it and trying different angles etc. till you find something you like. It takes some practice to get good at it like anything else.
