simple. use a hosting site, photobucket.com
you place a picture on your desktop. then upload to photobucket. the pic is given a url.
then you type that address in with your post.

I think he wants to add his avatar here:

First, you will have to upload the photo from your computer to a hosting site like Photobucket. Once uploaded the photo will receive a URL address. Right click and Copy the URL address. Now.....

Come to GuitarNoise and Log In.

1) Look up in the left hand corner and click on "User Control Panel"
2) It should open up to Front Page on the "Overview" tab, click on "Profile" tab right next to it.
3)The Profile page opens, now click on "Edit avatar" on your left.
4)The Edit Avatar page opens, now go to "Link off-site". You will have to enter (Paste) the URL of your photo from the hosting site like Photobucket in the open box.
5)Click Submit at bottom and you're done.

I could be wrong . . .
but can't you use any picture on any website (that already has the pic)?
Just right click the image to copy the url.
The avatar is limited to certain number of Kbytes though.

First point - yes, you can, in theory. In practice you may be treading on someone's copyright, if you just pick any old pic of the net.

The avatar is limited to 80 pixels x 80 pixels.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Imagine you are using a picture you found on someone else's server.
Imagine the owner of the image notices and decides he doesn't want you doing that.
Imagine the picture being switched for an exceptionally nasty picture to "teach you a lesson" for using the picture without permission.

Not "you may be treading on someone's copyright" but you are treading on someone's copyright.

Photography is another hobby I have recently started to dabble with. It's a tough one, pick up the guitar or go outside with the camera....

I'll just stick with the avatar picture that was selected from a choice this website offered.
