Does anyone have any simple latin/spanish music I can fool around with...preferably tab? I love the music but also I work with many Hispanic women and boy I would sure love to impress them... 8) !!!!!!

Either rhythm or picking it doesn't matter...

Thanks

Thx KV but a couple of questions:

the tab is written for lefties...which I can probably reverse easily enough...

Are these chords or do I play the notes individually?

There was a song my uncle showed me years ago that was all picking (except maybe a few chord fills) that started very slow and then the riff repeted. At each repetition the tempo got a bit faster and I believe it repeated 5-6 times....

I know that this might be like looking for a needle in a haystack but does anyone know of a spanish song like that? I believe it was a Mexican song...my uncle learned it when he was in the Marines...I'd ask him but we don't talk much anymore...

Thanks

They are individual notes, and you play them as triplets using a-m-i fingering. http://www.olga.net has some classical tabs, too.

Why not mess around with some basic flamenco? There are plenty of resources on the net.

I think the Phrygian scale/mode is a cool way to make some Spanish-esque music. Just my thoughts 8) .

Being a beginner I wouldn't know where to start making my own music...I need some premade songs to get me started...

And Alan, I looked at some of that flamenco music...that is WAY above my head...I need something VERY simple..

Thanks

I was combing through that Sal's website, and I could find only one mention of flamenco chord progressions. Here's the quote:
Some classical guitarists (understandably, if they haven't studied flamenco)
view flamenco as a "style" of guitar playing emphasizing certain techniques
above others and having a distinct sound. Thus (oversimplified) if you play
rhythmic rasqueados and fool around with Phyrygian scales and a lot of
Ami>G>F>E, it's flamenco. Not so. At most, flamenco-ish.

So there you go. . . what I've found out through experience is lots of minor chords, slowly strummed, can help give you that Spanish style of sound. You could try to make some chord progressions (focused on minor chords) and learn to play those pretty fast.
But I still say, if you can't find any progressions that sound cool to you, then make your own music! 8) For instance, in A Phrygian, just play some little descending lick, then finish it off with an Aminor chord; then go back and forth, playing little riffs, then finishing it off with an Aminor chord. That might help.

The cadence is different in Flamenco, too - it's usually I#-I (e.g. F->E) rather than V-I as in most other music. Try Spanish Phrygian rather than straight Phrygian for a more Mediterranean sound.

Best,

A :-)
