So, I'm taking another run at learning how to play the guitar and one of the most common suggestions I see in books, forums, etc. is to play and sing songs to help the learning process along. I'm completely on board with the playing songs part of that - part of my practice is dedicated with playing along with songs and I've noticed that's helped me a lot with my progress. The singing part is what I'm questioning. I've tried and I just get tripped up trying to play and sing at the same time. I'm interested how the teachers here feel about this - have you found that singing along with songs helps newbies with the learning process? I understand there's not an absolute answer, but if it seems to be effective for a lot of people, I'll spend the time to get better at it - if not, I'll focus on guitar for now and work on singing later.
