Country, rock-n-roll, folk, jazz, probably even metal.

There are no rules that say one guitar is required for any given style.

That said, the Tele shows up a lot in classic rock and country.

Let's not muddy the waters. Paint it red and it should play anything.

you could plug it into a small amp and play the Stairway to Heaven lick like Pagey did.

Queen? (Well, Crazy little thing...)

Pop. Gospel. Numetal. Rock of all descriptions.

Jazz.

Noise.

Best,
Ande

PS- disagree with painting it red. For real tonal variety, it should be blue.

johnny greenwood of radiohead uses a tele, and he gets all sorts of interesting sounds out of it.

Found another.
John 5 (Rob Zombie, Marlyn Manson) uses and has a huge collection of teles .

Definitely not the first style that comes to mind when I think Telecaster, but there you go.
One very versatile instrument.

I usually associated Teles with a twang--think country--but that's just the bridge pickup, so I don't write them off anymore. When you give them a chance, you can get some mellower sounds out of them too with the middle or neck pickups and tone controls, and with some overdrive you can use that clear treble to your advantage to get cutting tones that might not have that zing on another guitar. And, of course, the amplifier you plug into has as much effect on your tone as your guitar.

On YouTube ProGuitarShop reviews Teles and uses them to demo Fender amps, and there are hundreds of other people who post videos of their guitars, so you can get an idea how much you can do with one guitar.

Radiohead! But of course, Jonny Greenwood can do anything.
