Hi all. I've been playing for about half a year now, and I've also been learning theory.
What I've learned so far:
1. Intervals
2. How to make major and minor scales and pentatonic scales
3. How chords and scales are related
4. The names of the notes in first position
5. reading music in first position
I'm working on being able to read music better and in the higher positions.
My question is, what other essentials are there that i should learn? I cant afford a teacher so my only source for theory is the internet.
Thanks!

chord relationships. Cmajor and Aminor, for instance. which chords are in which keys. how to build 7th and major 7th chords. the tendency of V to resolve to I, and different ways you use it.
To help you further number two on your list......
Chords
Major: 1-3-5
Minor: 1-b3-5
7th: 1-3-5-b7
Minor 7th: 1-b3-5-b7
Sus4: 1-4-5
Sus7: 1-4-5-b7
Scales
Major Scale: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1
Major Pentatonic: 1-2-3-5-6-1
Minor Pentatonic: 1-b3-4-5-b7-1
Blues Scale: 1-b3-4-b5-5-b7-1 (Minor Pentatonic + b5)
Natural minor = 1-2-b3-4-5-b6-b7
Harmonic minor = 1-2-b3-4-5-b6-7
Melodic minor ascending = 1-2-b3-4-5-6-7
Melodic minor descending = natural minor
All depends on the kind of music you want to play. You wanna play bebop, better know your theory forwards, backwards, and inside out. If you want to play punk, you don't really need any, except what a power chord is. (before anyone lambasts me, I listen to and enjoy both of these genres...)
I cant afford a teacher so my only source for theory is the internet.
