So everything I've ever played to this point in my playing has been in 4/4 time.

I'm looking at the tab for Chili Pepper's "Breaking The Girl" and It is in 6/8 time.

Is 6/8 time different from 3/4 time??

YEs and no
If you have 6 8ths in a bar you can count them 1&2&3& or 1&&2&&. Counting it on 2 gives a triplet feling to the 8ths.

I don't know that RHCP song, but I guess for all practical purposes you can count in on 3

Somebody will probably soon chip in with a more qualified answer tho'

Strictly speaking, 6/8 should be counted as two lots of three, with emphasis on the first grouping

One-two-three-two-two-three
