Hi
I bought a new accoustic guitar about two months ago and I am having problems tuning it. They did a set-up for me before I left the shop, but now the G and high E-string does'nt seem to tune properly. I use an electronic tuner. When tuning the e-string, it sometimes shows that it is in tune, while other times it jumps to an A note. sIMILARLY the G- string keeps jumping to B.
Any ideas?
Do you mute the other strings when you tune? It sounds like the other strings are vibrating and confusing the tuner.
Overtones and harmonics can cause this to appear, especially on classical guitars. Always make sure there's life in the battery and the tuner's right up close to the guitar - in fact, I put my tuner on the soundbox. electrics don't suffer this way because you plug straight in to the tuner.
Best,
A :-)

sometimes tuners have a hard time 'hearing' the note you sound.
if you guitar is acoustic/electric be sure the volume is turned full up.
if you have a regular acoustic I often sound my note on fret 12. actually, I sound the harmonic.
the tuner easily recognizes that and I can tune with assurance.
you do know how to sound the harmonic?
The times I have had this happen, the battery was near dying.

Thanks. I will try this. Yes I do know how to sound the harmonic :)
So it seems like there is no problem with the guitar, which is what my main concern was.
Thanks guys
