It's also worth noting that the voicing with 320033 is the standard bluegrass G chord (actually, a proficient bluegrasser would play it 3x0033--a G5, even though in bluegrass tab or leadsheets it's notated as a plain G). If you want to play bluegrass or old-timey music, then you have got to master this voicing.

Maybe that isn't your cup of tea, but you'll also run into it with the bluegrassier country songs too.

Sometimes the genre determines the voicing you want, and it doesn't hurt to have something like that in your arsenal, and to know where it comes from when you need a sound like that--that voicing is one of the reasons the Eagles sound just slightly "country".
