Ukulele is so much fun and can be played anywhere it's so small. You'll really enjoy it.

To learn about the many different kinds of ukes, where to get them, and how to tune them, go here: http://www.ukuleleworld.com/

If you don't have one yet, you can get a head start on learning chords by placing a capo on the fifth fret of your guitar and plaing the top four strings. It's the sametuning on Ukes, except for the baritone uke, for which you don't need a capo and can just strum the top four strings.

You can find most useful chords here: http://www.st.rim.or.jp/~kunisige/eukulele8.html

This site has a TON of uke tabs, old and new songs, complete with diagrams. http://www.alligatorboogaloo.com/uke/tabs.html

To make your uke sound authentically hawaiian, strum with your fingers right above the fourteenth fret or so, right on the edge of the sound hole.

Your uke will make you very happy, enjoy!

If you don't know where you're going,
Any road will take you there

I don't know... I bought a ukulele because it looked like fun. But now it just sits on its shelf untouched. I just got bored with it very quickly because it's just like a more limited version of the guitar, because the frets were too small for my fingers, and because I couldn't play any bass parts on it (at least not what I consider bass).

Maybe that tab site will spark my interest a bit more, but to be honest I can't foresee a future in which I don't sell my ukulele.

Here's a site with chord charts for four-string instruments, including the ukelele:

http://www.chordfind.com/4-string/

My wife and I went to Hawaii last September. When it Christmas came, she gave me a ukelele she bought on the trip, then smuggled back home without me noticing. The kids play it more than me, but it's fun.

I've also found Jim Beloff's site to be a decent resource.

the Uke ROCKS! In Hawaii, all the public school kids learned to play in the 4th grade ... at least when I was in school. We played the uke and the recorder in the same year.

Anyway, we learned a lot of cool songs ... some traditional ... some not so ... They even have electric ukes if you can believe it!

They're fun to play and an overall blast ... it's hard not to smile when you play them.

Remember ... when tunning a uke ... think "My Dog Has Fleas" ...

can u play bluegrass on ukuleles?

You can play any type of music on a uke. Blues, reggae, bluegrass, rock, traditional....

Lyle Ritz played jazz on a uke.

James Hill is an astonishing ukulele player that really covers a lot of musical bases.
